Governor Bill Lee’s statewide school voucher bill has died for the year after Tennessee lawmakers could not agree on certain stipulations of the $144 million proposal.

The bill was controversial from the start with opponents fearing it would take away from public school funding.

Parents of private school students said it would have been invaluable.

Governor Lee said he was “extremely disappointed.”
